DRB mark 4 windows kit

I chose to use the window kit as the genuine window mouldings offer little ventilation, where as the flip windows in all but the hottest weather offer sufficient ventilation without the use of the air conditioner. and I think they add a nice detail, and look completely at home.

We biggin in earnest on the body

The engine is nearly ready for in too

The starting point for the body is to get it straight and fair, with all the gaps and pannels fitting and ligned up. this took me six weeks and I now can appreciate why it costs so much. it took 4 liters of bogg (most if not all of it finnished up on the floor as dust) and a lot of hard work. When I had finnished and the car was delivered to the painter Grayham Carr ( a NewZinana) he spent another week sanding and priming and prepairing the car for paint. The process involved many coats and lots of time for the correct process. First of was two coats of epoxy sealer/filler with rubb between each coat, followed by two coats wet on wet of hi fill epoxy filler (spray Bogg) this sets very hard and has to be sanded within 24 hours as once it goes hard it is very dificult to sand at all and this coat is where the seriouse foundation for the final finnish begins. Next two applications of primer each 4 coats wet on wet rubbed between each with decreasingly finer paper. until it is finally ready for colour.

The colour We chose (Natalie & I ) is a Lamborgheni Orange, the process for this colour begins with a white two pack top coat that you could drive away with, then it has its final sand and squegie prep ready for the orange

The first coat of orange is base colour only and does not cover well (hense the white base) after another light sand the pearlesent translucent pearl coat is applied and the true colour starts to imerge. the final finish is two coats of two wet on wet clear and the paint comes to life. In the shade it is orange. But in the sun it is chanoble orrange and very spectacular. with twinn perlecent white GT stripes and two black pin stripes on the bonnet and the sill stripes and ford emblem she is ready for home and all the bling.

Transaxle 5th gear modification

As I am Building a GT40 Cruiser (Not a Bruiser) I have changed the 5th gear ratio to use as an overdrive.

She's in the paint shop!

After 4 weeks of fairing on the body at my leisurely pace the body is now at Car creations in Thornlands with Graham Carr to apply the paint this will be a 6 -8 week process with lots of drying time between the coats,

The colour will be Orancio ashtar a Lamborghini pearl-esent Orange with stripes yet to be decided. She is due out of the paint shop at the end of February. whilst the car is in the paint shop I am detailing the motor & transmission ready for installations and final wiring and assembly.

I am hoping to be on the road by June but the one last major obstical to be addressed is upholstery and that may take a month. So the project is still a journey not a destination but the end is nearly in sight.
